Annual Screening Can Prevent Blindness

Dear Patient,

Glaucoma is an eye disease, usually associated with high pressure in the eye, which gradually steals your sight without warning or symptoms. Glaucoma is the second-leading cause of blindness, yet early detection and treatment has the highest success rate for slowing down or preventing loss of your eyesight.

High-risk people who should have annual eye checkups include people over 60, people with a family history of glaucoma, diabetics, people of African-American descent, and those who are severely nearsighted.

Because screening is so important, Medicare and other insurance providers cover eye exams for patients with family history of glaucoma, so please make sure other members of your family—especially your children and siblings—make use of this screening exam.

I look forward to helping you manage your eye care.
